Brick Sample

Brick Base
This is the base layer of my brick sample. I tried to get a lot of color variation within my base to look more like the natural color variance.
-
Brick Base Add
After using techniques such as rag roll, schlepitchka, and paint splatter.
This is an up-close photo of my brick base after I went over it using multiple different techniques to add dimension.
-
Brick Pattern Outline
Once I was happy with my base, I started creating my individual bricks.
I created the even pattern of stacked bricks using a long piece of lumber and a light grout color I mixed.
-
Highlight
I began to add highlights to the top and the left side of each brick.
This crucial step creates the dimension that makes the painting appear 3D.
-
Shadow
I then added shadow to the bottom and the right side of each brick.
This crucial step creates the dimension that makes the painting appear 3D.
